What UOB Vietnam is good for

  1. Running the company

    Capital and operating accounts

The Direct Investment Capital Account that receives charter capital, and the operating account the business runs on afterwards.

    VND and foreign currency

Domestic payments in dong, and foreign-currency handling for a foreign-owned entity’s inbound capital and cross-border invoices.

  2. ASEAN-linked group subsidiaries

    Who tends to fit

Regional trading or services with a Singapore or ASEAN parent

Account thresholds and practical considerations

Minimum balance

Set by the bank
Not publishedMinimum balances and fees are the bank’s own schedule and are confirmed when the file is prepared — never quoted here.
  • Currencies

VND for domestic operations; foreign-currency accounts for a foreign-owned entity’s inbound capital and cross-border invoicing, within Vietnam’s foreign-exchange rules.

  • Online banking

Corporate online banking with token or app-based payment approval; English interface availability varies by bank and is confirmed for your branch.

  • Branch relationship

Expect a named contact at the branch that opens the account, and monthly statements in Vietnamese with English on request.

Why UOB Vietnam applications stall

Group structure not explained

An international bank wants the whole group drawn out — parent, intermediate holdings, the Vietnam entity — and consistent documents across all of it.

Home-country KYC gaps

Documents that are fine locally may need legalisation or translation to pass the bank’s group standard.

Volume expectations

International banks are set up for a certain size of relationship. A very small or very early file may be steered to a local bank.

The 90-day window

Group-level review takes longer than a branch decision. Start early so the capital account exists before the contribution is due.

Check banking fit before you apply.

Your entity route, activity, capital plan and ownership affect which banks are realistic in Vietnam. Tell us the setup and we’ll tell you whether this bank is a fit, what the file needs, and what to fix before submission.

Frequently asked

Is UOB Vietnam suitable for every foreign-owned company in Vietnam?
No single bank is. UOB Vietnam may be relevant for some companies, depending on the activity, the ownership chain, the source of the charter capital, the expected transactions and the documents the company can produce. Suitability is confirmed against the actual file, not assumed from the bank’s profile.
Can Sonsoto guarantee an account at UOB Vietnam?
No. UOB Vietnam makes its own decision after reviewing the company, its owners and its documents, under its own KYC, compliance and risk rules. Sonsoto prepares the file and coordinates the application; the outcome, the timing and the products offered remain the bank’s.
Can a newly licensed company approach UOB Vietnam?
A newly licensed company may apply, subject to UOB Vietnam’s current requirements. The Direct Investment Capital Account has to be opened before charter capital is contributed, so the company should have its registration certificates, charter, ownership chart, source-of-capital evidence and a clear activity description ready before the visit.
Does Sonsoto have an arrangement with UOB Vietnam?
No. Sonsoto is not an agent, introducer or partner of any bank. We prepare the company’s file and the approach; the relationship is between the company and the bank.
