Da Nang Free Trade Zone: what has been announced

Vietnam’s first free trade zone was established by Prime Minister’s Decision No. 1142/QĐ-TTg on 13 June 2025, across seven locations in Da Nang. Its functional areas were still being built as of mid-2026. This page records what is public, what is not yet confirmed, and how we plan around it with you today.

What is on the public record

Six facts, each with a dated public source. Anything not listed here is not yet confirmed, and we say so rather than fill the gap.

Established by Decision 1142/QĐ-TTg

Signed on 13 June 2025 at Prime Minister level, the decision formally establishes the Da Nang Free Trade Zone.

About 1,881 hectares

The reported total area across all functional locations, as published with the decision.

Seven non-contiguous locations

The zone is not one site: the record lists seven separate locations across the city, each assigned a function.

Three functional groups

Production and logistics, trade and services, and digital technology and innovation.

Import–export procedures published

Decision 3157/QĐ-UBND of the city People’s Committee set out 34 import–export administrative procedures, to apply once the functional areas operate.

First functional area under construction

Infrastructure works on Zone 2 began in August 2026, with connectivity planned to Lien Chieu Port, the Hi-Tech Park and the airport.

Where things stand

The zone covers about 1,881 hectares across seven non-contiguous locations, grouped into production and logistics, trade and services, and digital technology and innovation. The city published import–export administrative procedures in July 2026, and infrastructure works on the first functional area began in August 2026. The detailed operating regime — customs treatment, incentives, tenant procedures — is not yet in the public record we hold.

Who should be watching Da Nang FTZ

The zone exists in law and its infrastructure is under construction. Nothing on this page says it is open for business, and we will not plan a company around an address that cannot yet be taken.

Worth monitoring if you are
  • Planning central-coast manufacturing or logistics
  • Building a digital or IT operation with a Da Nang base
  • Comparing Da Nang with Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi
  • Working to a horizon of years, not months
  • Already trading in Vietnam and weighing a second site
  • Interested in Lien Chieu Port connectivity
May need a different route today
  • Businesses that need an operating address now
  • Setups that depend on incentives not yet published
  • Activities outside the three announced functional groups
  • Founders who need certainty on customs and tax treatment

What the zone is intended to support

Production and logistics

The establishing decision names production and logistics as one of the zone’s functional groups, tied to Lien Chieu Port.

Trade and services

Commerce and service activities form the second functional group in the published record.

Digital technology and innovation

Digital technology, IT and innovation are listed as the third functional group.

Import–export administration

In July 2026 the city published a set of import–export administrative procedures for the zone, to apply once its functional areas begin operating.

What incentives does the zone offer?

Can Sonsoto set up my company in the zone now?
We can set up a company in Da Nang today under the routes that exist, and plan the structure so it can move into the zone when tenant procedures are published. We do not file for an address that cannot yet be taken.
